Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger 2001
"Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" is a song by French electronic music duo Daft Punk, released on 13 October 2001 as the fourth single from their second studio album Discovery. A live version of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" was released as a single from the album Alive 2007 on 15 October 2007. This version won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2009. In October 2011, NME placed it at number 132 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years". "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" is built around a bouncy keyboard riff sampled from the 1979 track "Cola Bottle Baby" by the funk musician Edwin Birdsong.
The animated music video for "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" was produced by Daft Punk and directed by Kazuhisa Takenouchi, director for Toei Animation, under the supervision of Leiji Matsumoto. The video was first released as an individual episode in promotion for the single release. It later appeared as a scene in the 2003 anime musical science fiction film Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem.
Kanye West's 2007 Grammy-awarded hit "Stronger" prominently features a sample of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger". The song received a diamond certification in the US from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2021, three years before being certified 11 times platinum by the RIAA.
"Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" is featured in the 2007 Youtube viral video Daft Hands, which shows a pair of hands moving to reveal each word of the song's lyrics. In 2010, Time magazine included Daft Hands in a list of "Youtube's 50 Best Videos". The video inspired numerous remakes including the variant Daft Bodies; both videos, along with other viral videos, were referenced in Weezer's "Pork and Beans" music video.
"Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" received a total of 87,7% yes votes! Previous Daft Punk polls: #231 "Around the World".

vernon 🐢🐻‍❄️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i feel like vernon would do really well with a sleepy little
like you can both just go lay down and cuddle
you can just waddle up to him with a stuffie in your arms and he'll nod seriously and take your hand and you'll go nap
or he can read to you with his nice voice
schnooze the day away
also very good parallel play
especially good if you actually need to get something done while little
he'll explain the steps as many times as needed
of course he's also the biggest weirdo and can rip you out of a funk in an instant by just being goofy
imagine with me
matching tracksuits
the swag is incredible and everyone is jealous
wonwoo 🐈‍⬛👓
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
tell me this man wouldn't buy you books on the same topic so you can sit beside each other and read your matching books
and share fun facts
like he gets you a book on animals and himself a book about biology
"did you know mr cow says moo?" "interesting, did you know tardigrades can survive temperatures up to 150 degrees celsius"
and then you both nod wisely
but fr he gets you so many matching things
and then pretends like matching with you isn't his favourite thing ever
"yeah they had a sale so i got you one too"
bro forces you to drink so much water
like he'll just hand you glasses of water throughout the day and stand there until you drink at least half out it
he's trying his best T^T

I just posted this in a thing about military chic, but now I'm posting it here because I am. Deal with it if that bothers you (this site is free, you can always just leave or unfollow me). For people who want a military chic look made from actual military stuff, some tips from an ex military surplus store worker and briefly online seller...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I recommend the Swiss wool coat highly with one caveat. It looks a little...German, but it's amazing quality (because the Swiss believe in quality), and if you go for one of the slash-pocketed ones they are just gorgeous (the older horizontal pockets are fine too). It comes in long and short varieties, and the rolled French cuffs are handy if your arms are a bit longer. It's a lighter weight wool coat, good for up to 45F and down to about 20F, colder with a sweater. I recommend the older ones with metal buttons, but there's a later plastic/bakelite button version that works well enough too. They make corresponding trousers that are great, but at that point you are going in almost full uniform, so I recommend switching it up with a good pair of Swedish or German (postwar) wool trousers just so you don't look too much like a certain type of 'German history enthusiast.'
Here's a link to one on eBay. They tend to run about $70-$150, plus shipping, so watch where you order them from because if you're getting something from Lithuania, shipping's going to be a bit. To defunkify anything (and there will be funk most probably), I recommend handwashing or soaking that shit in a mild detergent or Woolite.
However... Don't sleep on Bulgarian Army surplus. Their wool greatcoats are made on the Russian/Soviet WWI/WWII pattern, single breasted and slightly offset. Middle weight, with enough room for a sweater depending on what size you order relative to your build. Plus, there's usually an inner pocket for your trusty Makarov while you hunt for enemies of the Revolution or whatever. Again, it's got the French cuffs, and those are just lovely.
Tumblr media
Or you have your US Army greatcoat. A beast, but wonderfully warm:
Tumblr media
And then there's the US Marine WWII wool coat. This one is a steal at $48, but you'll have to be small enough to fit into it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's what I would call a forest green, darker than the mustard-green color of the US Army coat, and the wool is less coarse, this is a coat you could live in, especially if it still has the silk lining. It's thick enough, but not so thick you can't move around in it (that's true for all the coats listed here). You can get it (and the US Army greatcoat) in a cutdown, jeep coat style. It's shorter and made for, as you guessed, hopping in and out of a jeep without getting snagged on anything so you can go send whatever fascists you need to to their reward. Nice, but you'll want a good pair of trousers with it (again, check out the USMC wool trousers from this era, they're handy). The quality on this is second only to the Swiss stuff. I'm not sure why. If you're looking for something in the same color but a bit lighter and shorter, I recommend the winter service jacket above.. And we've got the British Household Guard overcoat. Technically fine, but, eh, I'm not a fan for some reason. Well made though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm more partial to this double-breasted British coat. And this Civil Defense coat is just a fucking gem. I'd love to find one in my freakishly tall size.
Tumblr media
Avoid, I'd say, the later Cold War era Soviet Coats, they are big and wool and tempting, but they are usually stiff as a frozen poet in the gulag. I've owned two (bought cheaply each time) and given them away because they just weren't keeping.
Tumblr media
Just...I get it, I get why it's tempting. It's got that Soviet swagger, but like the later Soviet Union, inside it just doesn't quite work.

Thoughts on old Electra (circa the present day)
Tumblr media
This specific photo is always kind of my starting point, it’s kind of hard to describe but the vibe is just right. The Bochum footage of Mykal is my main inspiration for how I write older Electra in general, he’s a lot more restrained than other Electras of the time and really shows his age on a stage that big, but it’s also kind of a fascinating extension on the character. I’ve always loved that Gordon in the Railway Series had a decades-long arc weirdly tied to actual developments in rail and I’ve always loved applying that approach to Electra
-Electra lives and works in a mildly to wildly fantasy version of The Northeast Megalopolis, usually based on NYC and Philadelphia. Basically imagine The Wiz (1978) in terms of being gritty and stuck in the 70s-80s aesthetically yet whimsical and surreal and weirdly optimistic. Because that’s probably the best summary of how electric trains and their fans in the US actually are.
-We’ll start with the simpler stuff. Electra looks jarringly young face-wise because *gestures at half the actors decades later* but gets misty-eyed (foggy windows are a thing) and harder of hearing (happens to drivers due to horns/other noise) and generally just kind of worn out and tired. Doesn’t move more than needed or overexert himself because it hurts, but very efficient and practiced vs “lazy”. Slower to speed up and react but a lot more gentle and stable vs erratic. -old man yaoi with Poppa makes me laugh because I just imagine them at a pro-nuclear protest after Electra convinces him this is a better way to convert everyone to steam
-Stress related health issues no matter how human or train. Tummy hurty, high blood pressure, sore/painful components that have run too hard and hot for years. Trouble regulating temperature and overheats more easily. Heat is bad for electronics in general and damage related to it due to overwork in trains is a big cause of early aging. It’s a major part of why he makes active efforts to calm down. VERY cuddly as an emotional regulation and physical comfort thing. Electra is almost never not cuddly in my mind and endlessly craves physical touch.
-Will casually peer pressure you taking care of yourself by calling for random stretch breaks or communal apple snacktime. This sounds absurd but is a running theme with older railroaders I’ve encountered
-Thicker and stronger from moving into freight service years post-canon, puts on a fair amount of weight in general because making freight engines physically heavier with concrete/extra metal is a thing irl. Stocky and cute with a barrel tummy and big butt. Can feel conflicted about it but generally comes to accept the physical change and being a bit soft and saggy (which happens to trains too, see the DB Class 150).
-Same color scheme, just maybe with more grey/silver. Even new electric trains in the US tend to look like 70s-80s timewarps (or even 50s with the gallery car EMUs made a decadeish ago). Bright obnoxious colors are still the norm for trains, seriously, the public actively likes them being loud and color coded, they don’t follow car aesthetics with all the grey.
-No seriously, a lot of the really dated 70s-early 80s pop culture stuff in the show is still popular with urbanites in the electrified areas of the northeast US. Philadelphia still claims the Rocky series and disco and funk are notably popular. The music in Stex is not far off what you’d hear at a roller rink (which often embrace the roller disco era lol). Electra being a dated old train is VERY locally endearing and would be seen as a cool uncle figure
-hangs around with a wide variety of electric trains (and some diesels running under wire) somewhere on a commuter line. There are an indefinite number of subway cars that are just the Rockies (they’re EXTREMELY NYC or SEPTA subway coded in canon imo). They wouldn’t interact much irl since they’re usually on different stations and platforms but we’ll swing things for versatility because electric train solidarity is thematically important to me. The subways trains are even weirder age-wise because they perpetually act like everyone’s annoying but loving younger sibling while often being 50+ years old, because dear god subways last a long time. 2018 Electra is a standin for the newer ACS-64 engines and Toothpaste Electra’s sort of protegé (largely looks like Lashane, hyperactive memer who is somewhere between an ascended Rocky and stereotypical modern elevator/transit fan). Based on vibes along, I feel like Deenah is his niece somehow and they ARE physically related, she comes over to visit sometimes and he keeps telling her to deal with her engine problems by just becoming an EMU. And other similarly weird advice.
-weirdly connects well across generations due to fondness for perennially popular things like surreal memes and foreign folk music you’ve never heard of. Doesn’t always get present day trends but weirdly good at connecting them to older things
-Electra is an absolutely fascinating character in the context of actual train politics and history in the US and is by far the one I ground most in reality. So 80s Toothpaste Electra absolutely ages (and eventually dies). 40 is old by train standards, intended lifespan is usually given as 20 but lasting 40 years is pretty common and electric trains last 50+ even more often because there’s fewer moving parts to wear out and they’re so efficient to begin with that it’s often more expensive to replace old ones with somewhat more efficient newer models. They just get bumped down to freight or commuter services, sometimes even maintenance trains. I want to give him some wacky maintenance train Components but the only one I’ve decided on is “leaf-obliterating laser train” because it just feels right. Maintenance trains kind of have Zamboni Guy appeal to a surprisingly wide audience because they’re weird, rare seen machinery (very Component-coded)
-Much, much calmer than canon. Over time Electra becomes more passive aggressive and snarky in middle age, and finally just really chill and bafflingly weird at 60+. Years of directly confronting a world that’s hostile and dismissive towards him made him… become more of an Oogway figure than anything, taking “resistance is pointless” in a very different direction and becoming far more jokey vs confrontational. “When will you troglodytes stop gobbling up this stupid contextless propaganda about early 20th century rail and worshipping cars and join civilized society by electrifying your damn rail lines” vs “hehehe wouldn’t it be funny if we just electrified everything. rugged mountain passes. heavy freight. siberia. isn’t that silly and absurd? don’t you want to be an extra edgy nerd and one up the “bring back steam engines” crowd with something even more implausible?” (All of these things exist and the US government has blown hundreds of billions on far stupider things)
-Direct confrontation vs working with the system is probably one of the overarching themes of Electra’s life post-canon. It’s such a Prince vs MJ conflict and present in transit advocates’ messaging. It’s hard for Electra not to want to lash out and be the squeaky wheel when electric trains and transit have been screwed for decades and are taken for granted and nearly invisible to much of the public. But it’s also not the most effective direction to sway many vs being weird and whimsical and less confrontational.
-Talks extensively in electrical metaphors (especially the water ones) in very animist ways because the broader electrical system is such an important thing for electric trains. I have extensive Electric Train Religion lore as a long-term project that is way too detailed and unfinished to fully explain. It vaguely parallels Buddhism (tons of regional variants, cycle of rebirth, avoidance of suffering (heat and inefficiency), and very elaborate levels and systems of divine beings and hell dimensions) and Taoism (balance, SO many water metaphors) more than anything and is very culturally alien to combustion trains, especially in the West. He looks like a nutjob to most outsiders but is very observant and often has surprisingly accurate insight on things because he’s been around so long and done/seen so much.
-Never grows out of his perceived “arrogance” because those traits have a VERY different meaning in the context of transit and electrification politics. The aggressive optimism is just kind of a thing because political will towards transit spending fluctuates so badly you have to be persistent to keep that rolling progress (ala France) or things will stagnate and die like in the US. The fixation on expansion and pushing for more is pretty sad because it’s done due to projects getting cut back so much and politicians undervaluing transit and electrification. The overly assertive “I am electric” identity politics are kind of akin to LGBT Pride in the US (and to a lesswr degree UK) because electric trains are SO misunderstood and unrecognized in terms of their merits and real problems. Electric trains are genuinely OP in general and it’s hard to oversell their advantages vs the combustion ones the media overromanticizes at every turn (while just ignoring electric ones).
-I’m inconsistent on how exactly Electra dies (depends on how sci fi vs tragically realistic things are) but gravitate towarda glam rock swan songs like Blackstar and The Show Must Go On thematically. There’s definitely notable physical decline at the very end as motors get derated. Not sure on mental decline, I think it’s genuinely hard to tell since Electra is so weird (yet present and rational) to begin with. I keep imagining them going out with a dramatic transformer/other electrical failure mid-run like the last GG1. His ghost definitely lingers and haunts things (cue Ouija board and pendulum scenes and “can still feel his presence” memes)

20. Mentality
♡ Pairing - Vash x Reader
♡ Word count - 1k
♡ Warnings - Vash's eating disorder
♡ Description: Vash isn't doing well mentally, and that means his appetite suffers.
Part of the 150 Bullets drabble series on AO3.
Tumblr media
It’s…a rough day. Your muscles ache, your knees hurt from where you scratched them falling, and Vash is…well, he’s not doing great either.
You worry over him as you cook. The sausage and potatoes bubble merrily, much more happily than you feel right now. Vash is quietly sullen. He looks over his pack, shifting things around in it again and again – like he isn’t sure what else to do. Then, he switches to staring off in the distance, to the plume of smoke and dust still settling two days later, his mentality in the gutter.
The town was demolished in the bandit raid. People are homeless and traveling to the next town. They spit and curse at you both as they passed, blaming you two for not stopping the bandits on time, for being the reason they tracked you down in the first place.
It wasn’t the case; you just happened to be in town when the bandits came through and recognized Vash. The shootout had been intense, but ultimately lost. No side won. And now, chased out of yet another town, you do your best to raise your spirits with the food you’d grabbed while you were still welcome.
Gently, you place a plate filled with steaming food next to Vash. He looks at it, brief, then away with a sour expression. You know what that means.
“Vash,” you say. He doesn’t look up. “Vash, you need to eat.”
“No, I don’t,” he mutters, flicking off a bit of ash that lands on his knee.
A sigh through your nose. “C’mon, I made enough for both of us.”
Silence.
You take the plate and hold it in your lap, fork ready. Vash thinks he’s in the clear, until you sit down next to him and hold out a forkful of mashed potatoes. “Say ‘ah.’”
He gives you a bemused look. “I’m not hungry, ______.”
That’s a lie. This man is always hungry. “Vash,” you sigh again. What can you do? What will make him get out of this funk? “If you don’t eat, I won’t either.”
Vash looks at you, alarmed. “But you need to eat!”
“No, I don’t.”
“Mayfly, you’re more human, you need to eat.”
You cross your arms and shake your head. “Not until you’ve eaten.”
Vash lets out a low growl of frustration. “This isn’t fair.”
Eyes rolling, you pick up the plate and hold out the mashed potatoes again. “We can argue until this food gets grossly cold, or we can both eat while it’s warm.” You give him a smile. “Your choice, birdie.”
He pouts. You smoosh the fork to his mouth, smearing gravy and potatoes on his upper lip. When he opens his mouth to protest, you launch the fork in, staring with delight as he closes around it and begins chewing. His brows twitch further down. Moving the mush to his cheek, he says, “That was a trick.”
“Duh.” You take the fork back and spear a sausage. “Getting you to eat is like getting a toddler to eat their vegetables sometimes, I swear.”
“I am not a todd – hagh!” He chews around the sausage you shove in during his protest. Unbidden, he lets out a small ‘mmm.’
“See? I knew getting the sausage was a good splurge!”
Vash is still glaring at you. He reaches out, taking the fork and plate. You’re about to turn away, satisfied that he’s going to eat, when he spears the other sausage and holds it to your mouth. “Your turn.”
You give him a look. “Birdie, I can get my own plate; that’s yours.”
He shakes his head. “That’s the deal: I took two bites, now you take two bites.”
Lips quirking up, you say, “Oh, it’s a deal now?” Still, you take a bite of the sausage. Vash’s eyes glitter with triumph and satisfaction. He spoons up a bit of mashed potatoes next and holds it out. You take another bite, humming at the tomas gravy and thick mush. Once you’re done, you hold out your hands for the plate and fork. Vash, a bit shy, gives it to you and waits for you to hold up the next bite for him to take.
And that’s how it goes for the next ten minutes – both of you feeding each other, carefully, lovingly. Once the food is gone, your bellies are full, and Vash is smiling again. He even hums a tune as he helps clean up the pots and pans and utensils used.
“I’m glad you feel better,” you comment, taking the plate he hands you and wiping it off with a damp cloth.
To this, Vash sighs. “Yeah. I’m sorry, I…just…” he shrugs, helpless.
“Birdie,” you take his hand in yours, squeezing it gently, “it’s okay. I get it. You’re way harder on yourself than you should be.”
He nods, more pliant and accepting of this now. “It’s difficult. I just feel so guilty for everything that I – “ he cuts himself off. Shakes his head. “It doesn’t matter. I know it doesn't matter now.”
It does still matter, but that’s a conversation for another night. Right now, you just want your man to be happy. “As long as you’re full, that’s all that I worry about.” You lean over and nudge him with a shoulder.
Vash laughs, bashfully bowing his head. “Yeah, and as long as you aren’t hangry, I’m happy.” He laughs again when you shove him over in the dirt, quipping ‘how’s that hangry for you?’

What was the inspiration for Shawn's family?
Well for Shawn I wanted to make a friend for Patty since I've always figured she's always been well-liked, and I wanted to try making a funk/rock troll. When her hair turned out looking very 60s-ish I decided that she was going to act and sound like Austin Powers (British). And then I was thinking about her family and I wanted her to have a good number of siblings so I was talking to @90svn and we randomly generated a number of siblings for her (it wound up actually being 150 but that was ... Too many for me so it got reduced to 15) And since it was in Femuary they all had to be sisters!!! Some of them are parodies of British characters or ideas (Shawn being based off Austin Powers, James being based on James Bond, etc) and some aren't idk ✌️

Socialism: Utopian and Scientific - Part 13
[ First | Prev | Table of Contents | Next ]
The industrial and commercial middle-class had, therefore, not yet succeeded in driving the landed aristocracy completely from political power when another competitor, the working-class, appeared on the stage. The reaction after the Chartist movement and the Continental revolutions, as well as the unparalleled extension of English trade from 1848-66 (ascribed vulgarly to Free Trade alone, but due far more to the colossal development of railways, ocean steamers, and means of intercourse generally), had again driven the working-class into the dependency of the Liberal party, of which they formed, as in pre-Chartist times, the Radical wing. Their claims to the franchise, however, gradually became irresistible; while the Whig leaders of the Liberals "funked", Disraeli showed his superiority by making the Tories seize the favorable moment and introduce household suffrage in the boroughs, along with a redistribution of seats. Then followed the ballot; then, in 1884, the extension of household suffrage to the counties and a fresh redistribution of seats, by which electoral districts were, to some extent, equalized. All these measures considerably increased the electoral power of the working-class, so much so that in at least 150 to 200 constituencies that class now furnished the majority of the voters. But parliamentary government is a capital school for teaching respect for tradition; if the middle-class look with awe and veneration upon what Lord John Manners playfully called "our old nobility", the mass of the working-people then looked up with respect and deference to what used to be designated as "their betters", the middle-class. Indeed, the British workman, some 15 years ago, was the model workman, whose respectful regard for the position of his master, and whose self-restraining modesty in claiming rights for himself, consoled our German economists of the Katheder-Socialist school for the incurable communistic and revolutionary tendencies of their own working-men at home.
But the English middle-class – good men of business as they are – saw farther than the German professors. They had shared their powers but reluctantly with the working-class. They had learnt, during the Chartist years, what that puer robustus sed malitiosus, the people, is capable of. And since that time, they had been compelled to incorporate the better part of the People's Charter in the Statutes of the United Kingdom. Now, if ever, the people must be kept in order by moral means, and the first and foremost of all moral means of action upon the masses is and remains – religion. Hence the parsons' majorities on the School Boards, hence the increasing self- taxation of the bourgeoisie for the support of all sorts of revivalism, from ritualism to the Salvation Army.
And now came the triumph of British respectability over the free thought and religious laxity of the Continental bourgeois. The workmen of France and Germany had become rebellious. They were thoroughly infected with Socialism, and, for very good reasons, were not at all particular as to the legality of the means by which to secure their own ascendancy. The puer robustus, here, turned from day-to- day more malitiosus. Nothing remained to the French and German bourgeoisie as a last resource but to silently drop their free thought, as a youngster, when sea-sickness creeps upon him, quietly drops the burning cigar he brought swaggeringly on board; one-by-one, the scoffers turned pious in outward behavior, spoke with respect of the Church, its dogmas and rites, and even conformed with the latter as far as could not be helped. French bourgeois dined maigre on Fridays, and German ones say out long Protestant sermons in their pews on Sundays. They had come to grief with materialism. "Die Religion muss dem Volk erhalten werden" – religion must be kept alive for the people – that was the only and the last means to save society from utter ruin. Unfortunately for themselves, they did not find this out until they had done their level best to break up religion for ever. And now it was the turn of the British bourgeoisie to sneer and to say: "Why, you fools, I could have told you that 200 years ago!"

Are you feeling better?
Did you have a good weekend?
So you know you’re great and an inspiration to us all?
Soo to be honest I spiraled this week and had a bad depressive episode. It’s been a while but everything piled up on top of the funk I’ve been fighting didn’t help. But I’ve tried to pick myself up everyday and with the help of sirs words and my sweet mini everyday has been a little bit better. I’m still in a funk but happier
The short answer is yes I’m better than I was
My weekend was good. Read about my morning. I competed in a dri tri sprint (1000m row, 150 body weight reps, 1.55 mile run). I was second in 28.03 min! (I was on a serious high after). We started car shopping. Ran a 5k this morning to stretch it out. And finished all the chores!
Aww you’re too kind. I wouldn’t say that at all but I heart you for thinking soo😘♥️
Thanks for asking luv
